GAMING
- G-SYNC CompatibleYes
- FreeSync™Yes (May not be available at the time of purchase of this product)
- VRR (Variable Refresh Rate)Yes
"I dont think they are all compatible
Samsung tvs support freesync but not VRR
LG tvs support VRR but not freesync
no current console does VRR but he xbox one x and s support freesync
I think what the HDMI people were trying to do with HDMI 2.1 was for VRR to be universal and not proprietary like AMDs freesync or Nvidias Gsync"
Aunque otro dice que:
"Variable Refresh rate tech;
PC implementations = Freesync and G-Sync.
TV implementation = HDMI Org VRR.
The HDMI Org VRR is not compatible with Freesync even though it is a direct clone of it and as of now is only seen on TV's. No PC graphics card support HDMI Org VRR either only Freesync or G-Sync.
The Xbox One supports Freesync for PC monitors and HDMI Org VRR for TV's.
Whether the Playstation 5 will support both remains to be seen, I suspect Sony may not support Freesync and only HDMI Org VRR for TV's as Sony pays little attention to the PC market.
So far the recent Samsung and LG TV's have support for VRR and the range is 40-120Hz across both which means it covers games running in the range of 40-120fps. Hopefully the HDMI VRR version has a fixed range of 40-120 otherwise things are going to get messy.
The smart thing I hope Sony does is say PS5 only works in VRR mode with 40-120Hz capable displays running at 120Hz output so game developers know the output is the exact same across the board and design games with that VRR mode in mind. Treat it like Nvidia G-Sync which is a fixed standard.
MS made a mistake is not doing this with Xbox One, they treated it like a PC with a Freesync monitor so any number of ranges are possible, making it confusing as games on console unlike PC's cannot change their internal graphics settings to make them fit in the range supported by the Freesync display to get the benefits.
On Xbox it's mostly only a handful of 60fps games that get a benefit, below 40fps with VRR there are diminishing returns so 30fps games which are very common do not benefit, unless of course a game developer implemented a 40fps VRR mode but they don't because there's no defined VRR range for the console."
